Covid19 update: Arizona

Heading into a grim week.

So far, I and my loved ones are safe.

Arizona lagged behind others in setting a ‘Stay Home’ order. I only go to grocery stores, mail drop, a health clinic, and work. I’ve been masked in public for a week (my own sewn masks).

Work…is problematic. My company is essential enough that we cannot stand down. We’re having an emergency meeting to discuss the feasibility of making our own fabric masks (1000 to 1500) *and* convincing 500 people to go masked.

Herding cats will be easier.

Some of these folks still believe Covid19 is a hoax. Some are in the high-risk categories. Many hold institutional knowledge vital to our company.

Personally, I think we should shut down for two or three weeks.

  1. Australia is pretty much shut down. Here in South Australia, where I live, we have been lucky so far: relatively few cases and no deaths. Yet. Other states, particularly in the east, not so lucky. I guess that here, at last, we are seeing the benefit of being a “flyover state”. Not many international arrivals of either people or goods, small population. Still, no reason for complacency. My partner and I have been voluntarily self isolated for about 4 weeks, only going out to get food or medicine. Most people we know are doing much the same. Sadly, some people aren’t observing the advice. Local governments in the eastern states have been closing beaches because numbers of people are still going out to the beach as if it was ordinary times. I don’t think many people see it as a hoax here, but there are a few conspiracy theorists with wacky ideas that it’s been engineered so the government can gain tighter control over the people. WTF?
Anyway, peoples, stay safe, stay well, stay home.
    Lorna.
