Courtesy of Scottsdale Estate Collection and their great Ebay site, you can now find some of my beaded jewelry for sale online, including pieces seen on this blog.
There are well-meaning folks who insist that fine jewelry can only be gold, silver, diamonds, etc. Sure. I’ve even made some of it. But a cadre of bead artists have been proving for the last 25 years that some incredible work comes out of the glass bead community, too.
I have been a sucker for gourd-stitch and right angle weave beadwork since I was a very small person hanging out at pow-wows and Indian fairs, where I got to see the Good Stuff. Then I learned that other cultures liked little round bits of glass with holes in ’em, and that a lot of non-native and multicultural artists were doing wicked cool things with beads.
I’m not at the high levels of the NICHE Awards and Bead & Button Show grand prize winners. For one thing, I love to make jewelry that is unusual, interesting, evocative of otherworldly themes – but can easily be worn in everyday situations. With blue jeans and a clean T-shirt, even. My stuff isn’t as low-priced as a lot of the wholesale beadwork shipped in from India or China – but it’s woven and stitched right here in the southwestern US, by me. I’m happy to finally have a reliable outlet for some of it. (Psst. I’ve been known to do commissions, too.)
I love the colors.
Thanks!
