Amor Vincit Omnia: sterling silver filigree and wirework, carnelian intaglio and cabochon accents, carnelian pendant crystal point. Approx. 2″ x 2″ x 1″. Topic: modeled loosely after a Spanish Renaissance breviary pendant in gold and emeralds, this version of silver and carnelian is subtly secular and nearly profane. ‘Amor Vincit Omnia’ (Love Conquers All) is worked in Byzantine-style filigree letters, one word per page. The antique carnelian intaglio on the front cover depicts a Classical Hellenic warrior’s head. The silver wheel pendant, entwined with ivy leaves, is a reference to ancient Celtic and Hellenic symbols sacred to the goddesses Arianrhod and Aphrodite. The carnelian pendant evokes phallic ritual objects from the same cultures. Artist’s collection.
